AI generated answers are now sitting above the search results your personal injury firm worked hard to rank for, and that one shift has agencies scrambling to sell you something new. This episode cuts through the hype and explains what GEO actually is, why it leans entirely on the SEO fundamentals you already have, and what to fix this week.

Casefluence: Go search your own practice area right now. Go on, we'll wait. See that block of text sitting above the regular blue links, the one that just answers the question before you even click anything? That is not a glitch. This is The Signed Case Podcast from Casefluence, and today we are talking about GEO versus SEO, and whether the SEO work you are already paying for still matters now that AI is writing summaries instead of just listing links.
Casefluence: Here is the short version, and then we will slow down. SEO, search engine optimization, is the thing you already know. You build pages that answer a question clearly enough, with enough trust signals, that a search engine ranks them well. GEO, generative engine optimization, is the newer layer on top of that. It is about how your firm's content gets picked up, summarized, or cited inside an AI generated answer, whether that is the overview sitting above your search results or something an AI assistant says out loud when a person asks it directly. And here is the thing we want you to actually remember from this episode. GEO does not replace SEO. It depends on it. There is no separate GEO project you need to start from scratch. There is the work you should already be doing, done with sharper focus.
Casefluence: These AI systems are not inventing answers out of thin air. They are scanning a huge pool of indexed web content, weighing which pages look accurate, well organized and trustworthy, and then summarizing what they find. So the things that already make a page rankable in traditional search, a clear direct answer near the top, accurate and current information, a logical structure, real signals that your firm is a legitimate business, those are the exact same things that make a page usable for an AI summary.
Casefluence: Here is where we see firms get this wrong. A lot of traditional SEO writing drifts into broad, keyword stuffed paragraphs written to please an algorithm rather than a person. These systems tend to favor content that states a clear answer early, in plain language, and then backs it up with specifics. So a page about what to do after a rear end collision should tell the reader, right away, what the immediate steps are. Not three paragraphs of scene setting before you get to the point. This is also exactly why a good frequently asked questions section earns its keep. A genuine question followed by a direct, accurate answer is close to the exact shape an AI system is trying to produce when it builds a summary. It does not need to be clever.
Casefluence: Now, some of this has nothing to do with writing style at all. Your firm's name, address and phone number need to match, exactly, across your website, your Google Business Profile and every directory you show up in. Your reviews need to be current, genuine, and roughly consistent with what a prospective client actually experiences when they call your office. None of that is new advice. But it carries more weight now, because these AI systems are effectively cross checking your credibility before deciding whether to lean on your content at all. And this is part of why competitor research still matters just as much as it ever did.
Casefluence: Now let's talk about what we cannot tell you, because honesty matters more here than optimism. Nobody, including us, can tell you with certainty how often a given page will get pulled into an AI generated answer. These systems keep changing, and the major platforms do not publish a formula for any of this. So be skeptical of anyone who promises you a guaranteed spot in an AI overview or an assistant's answer. The honest approach is to build pages that are accurate, clearly structured and genuinely useful, keep your business information consistent everywhere, and treat GEO as a natural extension of sound SEO rather than some shortcut. And one more thing worth saying out loud. Whatever shows up in an AI summary of your content is still your firm's communication to the public. Attorney advertising rules do not take a break for new technology. The same state bar rules on false or misleading claims that govern your website and your ads apply here too, so have your ethics counsel review anything unusual before it goes live, and steer clear of language that implies an outcome you cannot actually guarantee.
Casefluence: So if you are wondering where to start this week, here is the practical version. Check your name, address and phone number across your website, your Google Business Profile and your directory listings, and fix anything that does not match exactly. Keep your reviews flowing and genuine. And resist anyone selling you a guaranteed ranking in an AI answer, because that is not a real thing anyone can deliver responsibly. Do the fundamentals well, keep them current, and you have put your firm in a reasonable position either way this technology shifts next.
Casefluence: That is GEO versus SEO in plain terms. Not a new battle, just the same fight with better tools watching from above.
